‘She-polopolo lacking fitness’

By CECILIA ZULU
WITH a month before the Africa Women Championship kicks off in Namibia, Zambia women’s national team assistant coach Kaluba Kangwa says his players lack fitness.
And 22 out of 30 players reported for camping on Tuesday.
Kangwa said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday after the team’s training session that the fitness levels are worrying.
“The level of fitness is quite bad. Many players have lost fitness. But we are working on it and I hope they [players] will recover soon. This is the only disadvantage when players stay for a long time without training. When they are in camp we are able to monitor and observe their fitness levels,” Kangwa said.
The two-week tournament in Namibia will kick off on October 11 and Zambia are in Group A alongside Ivory Coast, Nigeria and hosts Namibia.
Meanwhile, Kangwa said they expect a full house today.
He named Grace Chanda, Tiza Chibale, Suzan Banda, Emeldah Musonda, Miriam Katamanda and Deborah Chisanga as some of the players being awaited.
Skipper Kabange Mupopo is leaving for Morocco today for Saturday’s Intercontinental Athletics Championship.
The She-polopolo will face Cameroon next week in an international friendly in Lusaka.
