Police pick up infant body in Nakonde

POLICE in Nakonde have picked up a body of a baby girl aged about five months and suspected to have been strangled to death by its mother before being dumped in a pit at the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) church.
Muchinga Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident and said the body was discovered on Saturday around 10:00 hours at Kazembe village.
“The toddler, who is believed to be about five months old, was dumped near the church on New Year’s Day. She was discovered by SDA members the following day. The mother of the baby is not yet known,” Mr Daka said.
He said police have instituted investigations into the matter, while the child’s body has been buried.
