Police guarantee law, order

ARTHUR MWANSA, Lusaka
POLICE deputy director of operations Alfred Nawa has urged Zambians not to panic because security is guaranteed in the aftermath of the general elections.
Mr Nawa said this yesterday when he featured on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC)’s Morning Live programme.
“There is no need to panic because the Zambia Police has managed to put the situation under control. We have standby forces, we are sending them wherever they are needed to quell any violent situation,” Mr Nawa said.
He also said it is encouraging that some arrests have been made in some parts of the country where people rioted and destroyed property after the declaration of President Lungu as winner of the August 11 presidential election.
“Yes, some people have been arrested, we have really made headways and the situation is under control. We have managed to send officers in affected areas and the status quo is now fine,” Mr Nawa said.
