THE dusty roads we live on along in Chongwe’s Silver Rest area are official roads, but they remain unnamed since the area was opened up for residential development almost a decade ago.Silver Rest is a well-planned upmarket area, which was opened up by the Lands Department after de-gazetting the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) land, thus converting the ranch into a human settlement.
However, the roads have not been tarred and are unlikely to be tarred anytime soon. We wish the powers that be could also consider our roads as they have done for Meanwood Ndeke residents.
In the meantime, our humble cry is that our roads, despite their dilapidated state, be named. This is surely a costless exercise but an important one so that residents do not remain uncontacted.
