PHI mall charges Mtendere residents for using toilets

A CRITICAL water shortage in Lusaka’s Mtendere township and surrounding areas is forcing residents to use ablution facilities at a nearby shopping mall in a neighbouring township, but this is coming at a cost.
PHI Shopping Mall management, which hitherto availed the toilets at no cost to customers, has started charging residents a fee to use the facilities at the shopping centre,
This has shocked shoppers, who would ordinarily use the toilets free of charge.
A check by the Sunday Mail confirmed that residents and shoppers pay K2.00 to use the toilets.
Management has defended its decision saying this is aimed at protecting facilities from vandalism by the residents.
