PEPFAR grants $3.5m support

MINISTER of Health Chitalu Chilufya.

GOVERNMENT has received US$3.5 million from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funding for rapid expansion of cervical cancer screening services, especially for women with HIV.
This has cheered Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya (left), who says the additional funding will catalyse rapid expansion and integration of cervical cancer screening among women who are receiving ARVs.
Dr Chilufya said this in a statement released yesterday by Ministry of Health head of media relations Stanslous Ngosa.
The minister also welcomed the announcement by (former) President George Bush on the collaborative efforts between the George Bush Institute, PEPFAR and UNAIDS.
“I hope the partnership will move into the next phase of developing a model and demonstrating a greater impact. We also hope to reduce deaths caused by cervical cancer specifically in HIV-positive women
