Patriotism cardinal for growth – minister

GOVERNMENT has implored citizens to be patriotic for the country to achieve its national goals.
Speaking during the golden jubilee independence celebrations in Choma on Friday, Minister of Tourism and Arts, Jean Kapata called on citizens to embrace patriotism because it is a catalyst for the country’s sustainable prosperity.
“We only have one country to which we should be patriotic. We must realise that without patriotism, it will be difficult for us to achieve our national goals and objectives,” Ms Kapata said.
She underscored the need for citizens to exhibit a spirit of sacrifice, selflessness, exceptional courage and patriotism so that the country can accelerate development.
Ms Kapata also observed the need to inculcate patriotism in the country’s youth for posterity’s sake.
“Patriotism is an important national virtue which all Zambians must embrace and should be inculcated in our children for our great nation to attain even greater heights,” the minister said at Choma’s Independence stadium.
The colourful golden jubilee independence celebrations were held under the theme “Commemorating God’s Favour of Zambia’s 50 Years of Independence for Continued Peace, Unity, Democracy, Patriotism and Prosperity.”
