PRISCILLA MWILA, Lusaka
A PASTOR of Door of Heaven Ministry Church in Chibolya township in Lusaka has been arrested for allegedly causing the death of two male juveniles.
The two boys, who are his step-son and nephew aged 10 and 9, died on Saturday around 17:00 hours in John Laing township.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said in a statement yesterday that Eugene Haminda, 38, allegedly whipped the two boys after he discovered that some money had gone missing in his home.
“It is alleged that the pastor had tied the two boys whilst whipping them and they later fell on the cooker and got electrocuted,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the bodies of the boys are in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while the accused is in police custody.
She said police have instituted investigations into the matter to establish what transpired.
Meanwhile, police have arrested 27-year-old George Phiri of Chawama township in Lusaka for allegedly murdering his two-year-seven-months-old child.
Phiri is alleged to have killed and later buried the child’s body at Daso School, in John Howard township, where he is a caretaker.
“We were alerted by one of the suspect’s family members. The incident is reported to have happened on July 26 this year around 19:00 hours,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the suspect, who led police to the scene where he buried his child, allegedly poisoned the juvenile using doom with a view to killing him and later taking his own life.
Ms Katongo said police have secured the place where the child was buried and are waiting for a pathologist to conduct a postmortem after exhuming the kid’s body.
