PRISCILLA CHIPULU, Lusaka
A CLERGYMAN appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court yesterday for allegedly murdering his stepson and nephew whom he accused of stealing church offering.
Eugene Haminda, 38, a pastor at Door of Heaven Ministry Church in Lusaka’s Chibolya township, is accused of causing the death of his stepson Jackson Haminda and his nephew Showi Lungu aged 10 and nine, respectively.
Details of the matter are that Haminda told the police that while beating the two juveniles, he locked them up in the house and went to look for another whip, but when he returned he found that they had been electrocuted.
However, one of the neighbours told the police that Haminda had beaten the two children, resulting in their death.
A post-mortem conducted on the two juveniles’ bodies ruled out electrocution because the victims were said to have died of head injuries.
When the matter came up yesterday, magistrate Mwaka Mikalile explained the charge to Haminda who said he understood it.
The matter has since been adjourned to September 8 this year for mention while awaiting committal of the case to the High Court.
