Partnerships needed to curb disease outbreaks

LINDA NYONDO, Lusaka
THE high disease burden in the country is a challenge to Government and requires partnership to be overcome, says Ministry of Health permanent secretary Peter Mwaba.
Dr Mwaba has since appealed for partnership with stakeholders to overcome the burden of the high prevalence and impact of communicable diseases such as malaria and HIV.
“The country is also faced with a rapidly rising burden of non-communicable diseases which include mental health, diabetes, cardio-vesicular diseases and violence,” he said.
Dr Mwaba was speaking in Lusaka recently when he received assorted medical equipment worth K1.2 million from Society for Family Health (SFH).
SFH executive director Namwinga Chintu said the institution has been supplying products and services for the past 23 years.
“Some of the products we have been providing include maximum condoms, care female condoms, chlorin water purification solution, mama safenite, newstart and safe plan family planning pills,” Dr Chintu said.
