Parents struggle to play teacher at home

HELPING children with their schoolwork at home is proving a challenge for some parents who lack basic teaching skills, says Costern Kajele, whose child is at a government school in Lusaka.
Government closed all learning institutions in March due to the outbreak of COVID-19, but classes reopened this week only for examination grades at both primary and secondary levels.
The indefinite closure of schools opened a new way of learning via social media platforms, where schools send work to pupils to keep them busy.
Mr Kajele said the new normal means parents are now flooded with extra work, adding that it is a situation that requires a lot of adjustments.
He said he is now inundated with schoolwork.
