THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has started planting palm trees in the city to help address environmental challenges the country is grappling with because of deforestation.
Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa said the palm tree planting project will add beauty to the city by making it clean and green.
“My dream as mayor is to make Lusaka as clean and green as Kigali in Rwanda. I want to transform it into a city of palm trees,” Mr Sampa said.
He said this recently during the launch of a three-year project dubbed “Our cities 2030 – youth visions and solutions” being supported by World Wide Fund (WWF) for nature Zambia, and Plan International Zambia in collaboration with various partners.
