UNIVERSITY of Zambia Pacers remained top of the men’s southern zone log with 13 points after their 74 -64 win over Lusaka City Council Looters at the weekend.
Pacers are closely followed by Hawks, who trail by a point following their 85 – 67 win over Heroes.
Defending champions Matero Magic had their title defence ambitions dented by Green Eagles who recorded a surprise 67-56 win.
Another upset was recorded when Green Buffaloes beat Napsa Hurricanes 72 – 52 to move into sixth position of the ten-team table.
Buffaloes play Magic in their next fixture on Saturday.
In the men’s B league ZCAS Blazers look set to play top flight basketball next season when they extended their unbeaten run to seven matches and this came via an 84 -43 bashing of Hornets Ruiners.
Blazers, with 14 points to their credit, are followed by Matero Magic Juniors who, despite their 65 -73 loss to Intrepid Bulls, are second with 13 – points.
It was their first loss of the season.
In the women’s division, defending title-holders UNZA Honeys kept their winning ways with a close shave against NAPSA Breeze who they edged 51- 46.
Two walkovers were recorded when Kafue Nkhosi failed to show up in a men’s B league fixture against Kabwe Legends while Assumption Comets earned two free points at the expense of Junior Hurricanes.
