Over 7 million new financial service users reached

KELY NJOMBO, Lusaka
THE US$37.4 million financial inclusion project by International Finance Corporation (IFC) in partnership with Mastercard Foundation has to date reached 7.2 million new digital financial service users with about US$300 million in monthly transactions.
The project, which was launched in 2012, is expected to increase access to financial services for an estimated 5.3 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to a latest joint report released by the two institutions.
It notes that Zambia is willing to modernise its financial infrastructure and has successfully engaged the global expertise of the World Bank Group.
