ZAMBIA Correctional Service commissioner-general Percy Chato says the recent increase in gender-based violence (GBV) cases has put undue pressure on correctional services as it has resulted in a high number of people incarcerated.
Mr Chato said out of an average of 21,000 inmates across the country, about 5,000 are incarcerated due to GBV-related offences.
He was speaking during the commencement of sensitisation activities against GBV ahead of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
