ORIENTAL Quarries has pumped US$ 19,900 (about K139,000) for Saturday’s World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight interim gold title fight between Catherine Phiri and Christina McMahon of Ireland.
Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions director of operations Christopher Malunga said in Lusaka yesterday that Oriental Quarries contributed the money on Monday.
The fight is billed for Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
Malunga said K139, 000 will go towards McMahon’s purse money and allowances for officials.
He expressed confidence that the stable will raise the shortfall of K158,000.
The budget for the fight is K763,000.
And Malunga said the stable will today announce the purse money for Catherine, who is WBC silver champion.
Catherine, who has a record of 10 fights all wins, won the WBC silver title in March last year after defeating Pia Mazelanik of Germany.
