Oriental, Ethembeni stables put pen to paper

ORIENTAL Quarries Boxing Promotion (OQBP) has signed a contract with Ethembeni Boxing Stables for next month’s World Boxing Council (WBC) gold bantamweight title fight between Catherine Phiri and Gabisile Tshabalala.
And OQBP has raised K600, 000 for the fight set for August 27 at Government Complex in Lusaka.
OQBP operations director Christopher Malunga confirmed in Lusaka yesterday that the contract with the South African stable was signed last week.
“We [OQBP] signed a contract with Ethembeni Promotions of South Africa last week for the fight between Catherine and Gabisile. At least that signifies that the bout is on and as OQBP we are ready to host the fight,” Malunga said.
He, however, said the organising committee is still scouting for K190,000 to meet the K790,000 budget.
Meanwhile, WBC silver welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi and Mbiya Nkaku have not joined camp.
