Opposition leader withdraws land case against Lungu

ECONOMIC Progress president Sean Tembo has filed a notice to discontinue a matter he wants the Constitutional Court to declare that President Edgar Lungu violated the Constitution by accepting a land gift from King Muswati of eSwatini without declaring it to the nation.
The notice comes barely a fortnight after the Constitutional Court dismissed Mr Tembo’s application to summon some government officials and journalists to testify in the eSwatini land gift case.
In a notice of discontinuation dated December 13, 2018, Mr Tembo has told the Constitutional Court that he wants to discontinue the matter.
“Take notice that the petitioner [Mr Tembo] in this matter is hereby discontinuing the suit against the respondent herein,” the notice addressed to the Attorney General’s Chamber reads in part.
