One dies in road accident

ONE person has reportedly died while 15 others have been injured in a road accident that occurred on Friday on Great North Road involving a Mazhandu bus, a minibus and two other vehicles.
Of a total 16 passengers on a Toyota Hiace, 14 had minor injuries and were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
“A female passenger was seriously injured and is reported to have died. The driver of the Mazhandu bus also sustained injuries and has not been charged yet. The rest had minor injuries,” police spokesperson Esther Katongo said.
Ms Katongo said the accident happened at 22 Miles around 15:30 hours after the Mazhandu bus, registration number ALL 5788, hit into a Toyota Hiace registration number ALZ 2270, which also hit into a Land Cruiser registration number ALC 3698 and later hit into a Nissan Datsun registration number AJC 9598.
She said all the four motor vehicles were heading towards the north-ern direction.
“The accident occurred when the driver of the Mazhandu bus identi-fied as Joshua Chona misjudged the speed of the Toyota Hiace and hit into it. The Toyota Hiace then rammed into a Prado driven by Philip Chiponda and later hit into a Nissan Datsun driven by Collins Shamvu,” Mrs Katongo said.
