By HONE SIAME                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            REIGNING champions Old Hararians have pulled out of the David Phiri Lusaka Challenge Rugby Championship billed for Lusaka Rugby Club today.
Old Hararians of Zimbabwe, who edged ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka in last year’s final, have withdrawn from the two-day tournament due to financial constraints.
National Rugby League champions Red Arrows have been drawn in Group A alongside Chibuluma, Zimbabwe Police and Prisons while Group B has ‘Men at Work’ Diggers, Green Buffaloes, Dar-es-Salaam Leopards and Mufulira.
Resurgent Nkwazi have been pitted against Harare Sport, Kitwe Playing Field and Lusaka B in Group C while Group D has Lusaka A, Green Eagles, Ndola Wanderers and Nchanga.
Lusaka Rugby Club secretary Cecilia Tresha, who released the draws yesterday, said arrangements for the staging of the tournament have been finalised.
Tresha called on rugby fans to turn up in numbers.
“Everything is in place for the tournament and I can only urge all rugby fans to come and watch the games,” she said.
Winners will walk away with K11, 000 while runners-up will pocket K7,000.
