North PF dismisses GBM’s claims

KELVIN CHONGO, Mbala
THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Northern Province has dismissed claims by suspended Kasama Central member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Mwamba that people in the province support United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema.
Northern Province PF chairpesron Matildah Lungu said at a press briefing in Mbala yesterday that Mr Mwamba has just lost his popularity and must leave the party.
Ms Lungu also challenged Mr Mwamba to form his own political party.
“People in Northern Province don’t even know Mr Hichilema.  Only very few people in Kasama saw him but they are still behind the PF,” she said.
Ms Lungu said that Mr Mwamba allegedly ferried supporters from other parts of the country to create an impression that the UPND has gained support in Northern Province.
“We don’t know HH [Mr Hichilema)]here because we belong to the PF, the party we all support,” she said.
And PF Mbala district chairperson Ackim Simukonda also challenged Mr Mwamba to form his own party as former PF secretary general and Minister of Justice Wynter Kabimba has done.
“Mr Mwamba must be aware that he cannot destroy the PF” Mr Simukonda said.
