HENRY SINYANGWE, Kasama
NORTHERN Province Minister Brian Mundubile has threatened to terminate the contract of Chimwendo Company, the contractor engaged to work on Chikumanino Intercity Bus Station.
Mr Mundubile is disappointed that works have dragged for over three years.
He said it is disappointing that the works have taken long to be completed despite Government showing commitment through timely release of funds.
“We are disappointed with the works. People have been looking forward to the completion of this project for a long time but it seems the contractor is failing us,” Mr Mundubile said.
Mr Mundubile said Government is committed to ensuring the bus station is constructed in Kasama, despite the delays.
Kasama is the most centrally-located district of Northern Province and requires an intercity bus station.
The construction of the Chikumanino Bus Station was due for completion this month.
Recently, Kasama Mayor Fredrick Chisanga said funds had been secured for the construction of the only intercity station in Northern Province.
“The construction of the bus station is on course as the funds are available and all the materials are on site. We expect the contractor to finish the works by June,” Mr Chisanga said.
A check by the Daily Mail, however, revealed that the works are far from done.
