No crop wastage expected – FRA

THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) does not expect crop wastage this marketing season following partial payments to transporters who have resumed haulage of maize from satellite depots to secure storage sheds.

Last month, it was revealed that over 80,000 metric tonnes of maize that remained uncollected at various FRA satellite depots around the country may get soaked and wasted by the rains if the K200 million owed to transporters is not paid on time.
During an inspection at selected depots on Tuesday, Eastern Province marketing coordinator Felix Moyo informed the FRA delegation led by executive director Chola Kafwabulula, that agriculture cooperatives’ camp committees (CAC) have played an important role in mobilising farmers to sell maize to the agency.
