Nkwazi executive, sponsors divided over choice of coach

SUPER Division Nkwazi executive and the Zambia Police Service have differed on who should be appointed coach of the team.
Nkwazi insiders told the Sports Mail in Lusaka yesterday that the two parties are divided over who should be at the helm of the team between Francis Majaka and Alfred Mulao.
Majaka guided the team back to the elite league.
The executive are for Mulao while some sections of the Zambia Police Service want Majaka, who was brought in last August, to continue drilling the team. Majaka replaced Matthews Phiri.
The source said Mulao, formerly of Red Arrows, has already been offered a performance-based contract.
Nkwazi won promotion alongside Lusaka Dynamos, Forest Rangers and Mufulira Wanderers.
“There is a problem at Nkwazi over who should lead the team this year. The executive has already given Majaka a dismissal letter and have since appointed Mulao, who was supposed to start drilling the team on January 6.
“However, the directors [Zambia Police command] are not happy with the move and have since requested the executive to bring back Majaka,” the source said.
When contacted, Nkwazi secretary Adrian Kashala referred queries to police national sports co-ordinator Wakung’uma Shapa.
And Shapa said Majaka is still coach until the sponsors decide otherwise.
Shapa said Majaka was dismissed by the Nkwazi executive but the sponsors have reinstated him.
He said since Majaka guided the team back to the Super Division there is need to give him chance to prove himself.
