Nkonde appointed Modern Stars coach

MWILA NTAMBI, Kitwe
DIVISION One side Kalulushi Modern Stars has appointed William Nkonde as coach and has tasked him to guide the team to the topflight at the end of the year.
Club secretary Joe Silwamba said in an interview in Kalulushi on Saturday that Nkonde’s contract will be performance-based.
Nkonde has replaced Dennis Njapau.
“The contract is performance- based although he has not yet signed it. We have given him enough time to go through it so that he understands what he is signing. Otherwise, he is the one guiding the team at the moment,” Silwamba said.
He said Nkonde will pick his assistant.
Modern Stars finished third last season as leaders Lumwana Radiants and second-placed Mufulira Blackpool won promotion to the Super Division.
And Silwamba said the interim executive committee led by Chalimba Phiri has been tasked to secure sponsorship for the club.
He said Modern Stars struggled last season to meet away expenses because Chibuluma Mines who are the main sponsors cut allocation by 50 percent.
Silwamba said the club has written to a number of corporate entities requesting for sponsorship.
