NKANA yesterday won the El Classico of Zambian football edging rivals Mufulira Wanderers in a Super Division Week 18 match played in front of a capacity crowd.
Nkana capitalised on the top team’s stalemates to remain in the race for the title.
Smarting from last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Green Eagles, Nkana bounced back in style and moved to 28 points, seven behind leaders Napsa Stars, who fought to a goalless draw with Nakambala Leopards in Mazabuka.
Nkana took the lead through Shadreck Musonda’s penalty in the fourth minute.
Referee Audrick Nkole awarded Nkana the penalty after goalkeeper Crispin Chisowa hacked Danny Silawe.
Nkana doubled the advantage on the 53rd minute when Simon Bwalya connected a Ronald Kampamba pass.
Ghanaian striker Rahim Osman scored a consolation for Wanderers in the 88th minute.

Real Nakonde coach Mathews Njovu escaped lynching from the fans as his team went down to Power Dynamos at New Stadium, MATHEWS KABAMBA reports.
Njovu was rescued from irate fans by police officers.
