PRISCILLA CHIPULU, Lusaka
THE Non-Governmental Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has demanded the arrest of United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres who insulted and almost physically assaulted Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili on Monday.
Board chairperson Sara Longwe said in a statement yesterday the arrest would serve as a lesson to others, especially those who are in the habit of attacking female leaders.
Ms Longwe condemned the cadres who showered Reverend Sumaili with obscenities at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court shortly after she attended a court case in which she is cited for contempt.
Ms Longwe said the attack was gender-based violence which was meant to intimidate and silence her as a woman.
On Monday, some UPND cadres hurled obscenities on Reverend Sumaili and almost physically attacked her when she appeared at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court.
