NGOCC calls for inreased financing to women farmers

DOREEN NAWA, Lusaka
THE Non-Governmental Organizations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has called for adequate financing of women in agriculture in order for them to venture in climate smart agriculture activities.
NGOCC executive director Engwase Mwale said agricultural production comes from small farmers, who are mostly rural women adding that women comprise the largest percentage of the workforce in the agricultural sector, but do not have access and control over all productive resources.
Mrs Mwale who was speaking in interview recently said climate change poses the biggest risk for agriculture and food security.
“We all know that women are the largest percentage of farmers everywhere and we need them to produce more food but without enough funds, this cannot be done.
We need to invest in agriculture such as irrigation, drought-resistant technologies, controlling floods to be able to adapt to climate change. Such investment can only be possible if more funds are allocated to access such,” she said.
