Ndola man jailed for assault

THE Ndola Magistrate’s Court has imposed an 18-month jail sentence  with hard labour on a 51-year-old man of Lubunda village in Ndola for assaulting his acquaintance during a drinking spree.
Robby Kang’ombe pleaded guilty to assault when he appeared before magistrate Mwansa Chibalo.
“On your own admission of the facts, I find you guilty as charged and I convict you accordingly. I, therefore, sentence you to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from the date of your arrest,” Mr Chibalo said.
Kang’ombe on December 22 last year in Ndola, assaulted Charles Chingayi.
Facts before court are that on the fateful day, Mr Chingayi was at a bar in Mwangana when Kang’ombe joined him.
The court heard that Kang’ombe attacked and beat Mr Chingayi for no apparent reason.
Kang’ombe later picked up a stone and hit Mr Chingayi on the left eye.
Mr Chingayi sustained an injury and reported the matter to Kafulafuta Police Post.
Kang’ombe admitted assaulting Mr Chingayi and occasioning him actual bodily harm.
