By CECILIA ZULU

THE Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) yesterday received K55,000 towards their outing to Botswana for the 2014 Africa Championship starting next weekend.
NAZ need K92, 000 to send the netball team for the continental event.
The National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) donated K30,000, Shoprite Zambia presented tracksuits worth K15,000 while Manzi Valley donated 115 cases of water worth K2,500.
NAZ also received K5, 000 and K3, 000 from Pound Stretcher and Cavmont Bank, respectively.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Lusaka yesterday, NSCZ chairperson Mwamba Kalenga was delighted to receive financial support from the four organsiations.
Kalenga said NSCZ will strive to ensure that all sports disciplines receive equal support.
“Sport stabilises the country and without sports we can have a lot of vices. The passion that you [sponsors] have towards the development of minor sports should continue.
“It is my appeal to the netball team to go back to the sponsors and say thank you to them. Do not disappear for good because next time they will refuse to help you,” he said.
And NAZ patron Maxwell Sichula commended the sponsors for the support.
Sichula presented certificates of honourship to NSCZ and sponsors.
NAZ president Getrude Mukuni said they have a shortfall of K32,000.
The Africa Championship will run from September 14 to 20 in Gaborone.
