National 15s coach eyes promotion

VICTOR KUMWENDA, Lusaka
NATIONAL 15s team coach Mwamba Chishimba is targeting qualification to the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Group 1B.
Zambia face Nigeria on Sunday in the opening match of the Africa Cup Group 1C tournament.
In an interview yesterday after a morning training session, Chishimba said Zambia will roll over Nigeria at Lusaka Showgrounds.
Chishimba said his target is to earn promotion to Group 1B.
“We must beat Nigeria. It is important because that will set us on the path to success in the tournament and since we are hosting we just have to do it this time. I know they [Nigeria] also have the same ambitions but I feel this is the right time for Zambia.
“The team is injury free and looking forward to Sunday’s game. It was disappointing to fail to qualify to Group B last year. But with home support I don’t see Nigeria giving us problems and we have picked a strong squad,” he said.
Last year, Zambia edged Nigeria 28-10 in Gaborone but missed out on qualification after losing to Mauritius and Botswana.
Botswana thumped Zambia 66-14 while Mauritius thumped the then Innocent Sakala-mentored side 57-17.
Chishimba urged fans to turn up in numbers and rally behind the team.
Zimbabwe are the other team in the group.
