Mwamelo upbeat of Zesco, Zanaco success in Africa

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) vice-president Boniface Mwamelo is confident the country’s envoys in the 2016 Africa inter-club competitions will perform to expectation.
Mwamelo said in Chingola yesterday that the two teams have experienced players capable of competing against the best teams in Africa.
Zesco United will do battle in the Champions League and will start the campaign against a yet to be known team from South Sudan while Zanaco are on bye to the Confederation Cup first round and will face Zimbabwean side Harare City or AS Adema of Madagascar.
“They are not novices in this competition.  What is cardinal for both teams is to learn from the mistakes of the past, build on their experience and ensure that whatever bottom necks they could have encountered in the previous campaigns are taken care of,” Mwamelo said.
He advised the technical benches of the two sides to ensure physical and mental fitness as well as discipline in the players.
“We have every reason to be confident that the two teams will go far. Their aim should be to reach the group stages and once they reach the group stages, anything is possible thereafter,” Mwamelo said.
He also urged fans from other clubs to rally behind the two sides.
Meanwhile, Mwamelo said he would soon announce which position he would contest at the forthcoming FAZ elective annual general meeting.
“I will announce my position on that matter anytime soon.  I just want to conclude my consultations. So far, I have done eight out of the ten provinces,” he said.
