Muziyo, Mupopo shine at Army awards

BOXER Ben Muziyo and runner Kabange Mupopo were on Friday night named Zambia Army 2016 sport personalities-of-the-year.
And deputy commander Major General Jackson Miti instructed all Army clubs to perform to expectation this year.
Muziyo has now won the award for the third consecutive year while Mupopo has bagged it twice.
The two athletes were honoured during the Zambia Army sports awards at Arakan Barracks in Lusaka.
Muziyo represented Zambia at 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games where he reached the second round.
Mupopo on the other hand participated at the 2016 World Indoors Championship in the United States where she reached the semi-finals.
She also reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Brazil.
Charles Halubono of Green Buffaloes Women Football Club was voted coach of-the-year.
Halubono guided Buffaloes to the women national championship title without defeat.
The team was crowned club of-the-year.
Meanwhile, Miti said there is need for Army teams to shine this year.
He said the Army will continue supporting sport as it helps men and women in uniform to stay fit.
Miti also said the command will not accept indiscipline among sports personalities.
He urged sports personalities to be above gender based violence.
National Sports Council of Zambia board chairperson Mwamba Kalenga hailed the Zambia Army for its continued support to sport.
Kalenga urged athletes to remain disciplined if they are to reach higher heights.
Zambia Army director of sport Thomas Bwalya said there is need for all clubs to embrace hard work.
He thanked the command for promoting sport in the Army.
