Munyonga, Punza off to Uzbekistan

FLORENCE MWALE, Lusaka
JUDOKAS Boas Munyonga and Mathews Punza are today expected to leave for Uzbekistan for a two-year training programme.
Munyonga and Punza have been awarded scholarships by the International Judo Federation to prepare for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Zambia Judo Association president Alfred Foloko said in Lusaka yesterday that the duo will leave tonight.
“There were uncertainties concerning Boas and Mathews trip but finally they will leave tonight,” Foloko said.
Munyonga and Punza will compete in a number of international tournaments during their two-year stint in Uzbekistan to earn qualification points for the Olympic Games.
The duo also spent two years in Algeria prior to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Last year, Munyonga won bronze at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games while Punza was eliminated in the preliminary round.
