Munyonga, Punza eager for Morocco success

CECILIA ZULU, Lusaka
JUDOKAS Boas Munyonga and Mathews Punza are eager to perform to expectation at the Africa Open Judo Championship starting tomorrow in Casablanca, Morocco.
In an interview from Uzbekistan on Wednesday, Munyonga said he wants to earn points ahead of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
The Africa Open Judo Championship will also be used as a qualifying tournament for the Brazil games.
“I am going for the highest [gold] medal. With that achievement, definitely I will stand a chance of qualifying for the Olympic Games. I am more than ready,” said Munyonga, who won a bronze medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
He competes in the 81kg category.
And Punza pledged to do the best during the tournament.
“I will do everything possible to put the Zambian flag on top,” said Punza, who competes in the 66kg category.
Meanwhile, Zambia Judo Association secretary Mabvuto Ng’uni said national team coach Moola Lipimile and judoka Abigail Chindele arrived in Casablanca yesterday morning.
Chindele campaigns in the 48kg category.
“I am ready for the tournament although I have been combining police training, police examination and judo training. I have set my goal and I am ready,” Chindele said.
The tournament ends on Sunday.
