Mugabe refuses to quit

EMBATTLED Robert Mugabe is reportedly resisting overtures by various interest groups and individuals for him to step down as Zimbabwe’s President.

As the 93 year-old Mugabe remains under house arrest in the wake of Wednesday’s takeover of the country by the army, several groupings and individuals, including President Lungu, have stepped up efforts to seek an amicable solution for a seeming impasse.
And the Herald newspaper reported last night that President Mugabe yesterday met Zimbabwe Defence Force Commander General Constantino Chiwenga, South Africa Minister of Defence Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Zimbabwe Defence Minister Dr Sydney Sekeramayi and Zimbabwe State Security Minister Kembo Mohadi at State House.
