Mufulira readies for rainy season

MUFULIRA district commissioner Chanda Kabwe has allayed fears of an outbreak of typhoid in the district this rainy season.
He said the district epidemic team has put in place all the necessary preventive measures.
Mr Chanda, who is also Mufulira district epidemics committee chairperson said all stakeholders have put in place measures to ensure that no outbreak is recorded this rainy season.
“Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company is supporting by providing clean and quality water to all areas including Francis Mukuka and Mubambe townships which are typhoid prone areas,’’ he said.
Mr Kabwe said the company has also gone a step further by replacing old pipes and ensuring that there are no water leakages in the areas that it services.
He said other stakeholders that have come on board are society for family health  and  the district health management team that have teamed up to distribute free chlorine and sensitise people on how best to use chlorine as a disinfectant.
Mr Kabwe said residents have been discouraged from getting water from shallow wells.
He said the committee has been working tirelessly to address all the possible causes for the outbreak of typhoid in the district.
Mufulira is notorious for annual typhoid outbreaks. The typhoid virus is usually transmitted through contaminated water.
