Motorists welcome insurance law

SYLVESTER CHISHIMBA, Lusaka
MOTORISTS in Zambia have welcomed a new law passed by Government to compel them to display insurance and security discs on vehicles.
Richard Bwalya, 34, a motorist, told the Sunday Mail that a good society stems from people strictly adhering to societal norms and regulations.
Another motorist, Sydney Sichula, said the decision will compel most motorists countrywide to insure their vehicles.
“I’m very aware that a lot of motorists do not insure their vehicles and the mere thought of being impounded by the traffic police and Road, Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) patrol officers for failure to display insurance will force them to have motor insurance cover,” he said.
On June 8, 2015, Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga signed Statutory Instrument (SI) to compel motorists to display insurance and security discs on vehicles.
