Motor vehicle-assembling plant to be completed next year

THE construction of a US$175 million motor vehicle-assembling plant in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ), which stalled due to technical challenges, will be completed next year.

Immediately after the ground-breaking ceremony last December, China’s largest state holding, Guangzhou Automobile Group Company Limited (GAC), stopped the manufacturing of the Gonow brand.

Gonow Zambia Limited chairperson Gerald Makungu said the company has since signed a new agreement with China’s Forland Changsha Foton to assemble five and three tonnes light trucks.
