MIKE MUGALA, Lusaka
A TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka’s Chipata Overspill area got a shock of his life after his mother-in-law stripped before him while insulting him when he was reporting about her daughter’s infidelity.
Victor Mumba, who on several occasions has been receiving phone calls from his wife’s alleged lover, was giving evidence in a case in which he sued Memory Mumba, his wife of three years.
Facts before the court were that the two got married in 2014 and have one child together. Bride price was partly paid.
When he appeared before magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Miyanda Banda, Victor told a fully-packed Matero local court that problems in his marriage started in 2016.
“My wife saved her boyfriend’s phone number as her brother. The last time when she was bathing, I answered her phone and the man said he has been friends with my wife for some time and that they have done a lot of things together,” he said.
Victor told the court that he has on several occasions been insulted by his mother-in-law and his wife’s relatives when he goes to report his wife’s alleged promiscuity.
But Memory, in her defence, told the court that Victor has been the source of problems in their marriage, accusing him of being promiscuous and irresponsible.
She told the court that she found her husband with a woman at a drinking place in the area.
She pleaded with the court in her submissions not to grant the two a divorce saying she still loves her husband.
But the court, in its judgment, granted a divorce and ordered Victor to pay monthly child maintenance of K250.
