More needs to be done to reduce road accidents

Dear editor,
REFER to Wednesday’s editorial “Invest in Road Safety” which seems to suggest that the translation of the Highway Code into more local languages will somehow help reduce road accidents.
Though the above is part of the solution, but the problem is bigger than that.
First, RTSA has no strong Technical Dept to understand what the mobility problems are. I will highlight two for now.
1. A number of service stations offer free air pressure services! RTSA does not check the gauges in these stations to ensure the air gauges are properly calibrated and give the correct reading.
More often than not, tyres are over-inflated because of faulty gauges.
2. A lot of motorists upgrade tyre sizes without consulting the experts – Result, speedometer giving false reading.
