Mobile subscriber hits 13 million

ZAMBIA’S mobile subscriber base has hit over 13 million with MTN Zambia accounting for the largest market share of 44 percent in the last one year.
The mobile subscriber base includes subscriber identification module (SIM) cards, routers and other SIM card-capable devises.
According to the latest report released by the Zambia Information and Communication Authority (ZICTA), the country’s overall mobile subscriber base increased to 13,438,539 from 12,017,034 in 2016.
ZICTA has attributed the growth to the commissioning of over 2, 000 communication towers and expansion of the national optic fibre network.
“MTN Zambia accounted for the largest share of subscribers at 44 percent followed by Airtel at 39.7 percent. Zamtel had the least market share with 15.9 percent,” a report reads in part
