Mobile money has benefitted many, says Airtel

AIRTEL Zambia has observed that the introduction of Mobile money product has positively contributed to the financial inclusion in Zambia.
Airtel Zambia head of corporate communications and Government relations Yuyo Kambikambi said in a statement that Airtel money platform has developed into playing a supportive role in the systematic growth of financial services in Zambia.
“Our preference to provide an assortment of other customer convenient services including the payment of utility bills directly from one’s phone  including Zesco, water utilities, GoTV; and the purchase of other goods and services from our growing merchant outlets,” Mrs Kambikambi said.
She said the comparative higher customer reach due to the recruitment of numerous reliable agents countrywide has allowed for broader usage of financial services in Zambia
Meanwhile, Mrs Kambikambi said Airtel mobile money has recorded over four million subscribers since September 2011 when it was launched.
“Our subscribers are educated on Airtel money and subsquently recruited on a daily basis through our agents; Airtel shops and brand ambassadors deployed countrywide,” she said.
Mrs Kambikambi said Airtel has also started retraining its agents and aligning them on the benefits of conclusive customer education.
