Ministry caught up in K8 million misapplication

THE Auditor-General’s Report has revealed that the Ministry of Higher Education misapplied over K8 million meant for university education and skills development which was channelled towards buying motor vehicles, office furniture and other unrelated activities.

The report states that contrary to Appropriation Act of 2015, a total of K8,369,665 meant for university and skills development was spent on paying leave days, subsistence allowance and purchase of motor vehicles for constitutional office- holders, among others.
The report has also revealed that over K1 million accommodation refunds were irregularly paid to 523 Copperbelt University (CBU) and University of Zambia (UNZA) students who were not entitled to the repayments.
