CITY of Lusaka yesterday humiliated Mufulira Wanderers in a Super Division Week Two match played on a sodden pitch.
This match pitted teams that have won the Super Division title 10 times – nine for Wanderers and one for City.
City, who registered the first win of the season, were in a class of their own scoring through Noel Phiri, Clement Mundia, Roy Sakwanda and Dominic Mulenshi.
Wanderers got their consolation through substitute Ghanaian Rahim Osman.
City, who piled pressure on the home side from the first whistle, survived an early scare when Joseph Kasongo almost put Wanderers ahead with a close-range header that went wide.
However, it was not surprising when City took the lead through Phiri, who nodded in a Morgan Kaoma cross in the sixth minute.
‘Yamoto’ continued pushing forward and were rewarded when Mundia doubled the advantage in the 35th minute from a rebound after Wanderers goalkeeper Joshua Manyongo spilled a harmless Jackson Musonda shot.
Sakwanda added the third on 52 minutes after connecting a pass from Mulenshi but Wanderers pulled one back five minutes later through Osman in the 57th minute.
The Ghanaian capitalised on a defensive error to score his first goal of the season.
And when Wanderers looked like they were going to mount a dramatic come-back, Mulenshi dashed their hopes with a volley from Musonda’s well-executed free-kick on 61 minutes.
The Elijah Chikwanda-mentored City have three points while Wanderers have zero.
