MIDLANDS pugilists dominated at the just-ended Inter-Provincial boxing tournament at Lusaka’s Showgrounds.
The four provinces that took part in the three-day event were Central, Southern, Copperbelt and Lusaka.
Lusaka emerged overall winners after winning 21 bouts, Copperbelt registered two victories while Southern and Central provinces failed to win.
The tournament was held alongside the Agricultural and Commercial Show.
After defeating other regions, Midlands Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) pugilists competed amongst themselves.
Mwengo Mwale defeated Sipho Njovu in the mosquito weight category on split point decision while in the gnat weight category Sydney Kalekeni beat Jackson Kapembwa also on a split point.
In the paper weight category, Mathews Zulu thumped Davies Silwamba on a split point decision while female flyweight boxer Hildah Ng’andwe lost to Margaret Tembo.
MABA chairman Christian Kalima was impressed with the skill.
“We have a bright future ahead of us if these young pugilists are well monitored. I am impressed with the talent coming from midlands clubs,” Kalima said.
