MFEZ should create jobs

SECRETARY to the Cabinet Roland Msiska says Government is determined to accelerate the flow of investment to multi-facility economic zones (MFEZ).
Speaking during his familiarisation tour of Chambishi MFEZ yesterday, Dr Msiska said it is Government’s desire to see the zones begin to function as designed so that they create more jobs for Zambians and contribute to national economic development.
“We want to use economic zones as a tool for industrialisation,” Dr Msiska said.
He said Government is already making progress in resolving some of the challenges facing industries in the zones such as inadequate energy, security concerns and work permit issues for expatriates.
Dr Msiska said Government was looking at negotiating for the construction of another thermal-powered plant in Maamba district with the capacity to produce at least 400 megawatts (MW) of electricity that can be tapped into the national electricity grid and shared between the Lusaka and Chambishi MFEZ.
