Men’s chess team stun Egypt, women win

THE Zambia men’s team continued causing upsets at the ongoing World Chess Olympiads in India this time beating African champions Egypt in round four on Monday. Egypt lined up three Grand Masters and one International Master (IM) but the Zambian players still stood their ground to record another famous victory. Only IM Chitumbo Mwali lost to Egyptian GM Adham Fawzy while Gillian Bwalya settled for a draw with GM Bassem Amin.The heroes were unrated Timothy Kabwe, who shocked IM Kareim Wageih, and IM Richmond Phiri, who defied odds to beat GM Hesham Abdelrahman, for Zambia to win 2.5 – 1.5 and move to the 51st position with nine points. Prior to the win over Egypt, Zambia were ranked 73rd.
