Men, women tumble at Olympiads

MATHEWS KABAMBA, Kitwe
BOTH the men and women national chess teams on Monday endured a rough start at the Olympiads in Georgia after recording an identical 3.5-0.5 loss to Ukraine and Slovenia respectively.
In the men’s section, the four players had a difficult pairing against Ukrainian Grand Masters (GM).
Zambia’s best result was a stalemate recorded by International Master (IM) Andrew Kayonde, who held GM Vassily Ivanchuk on board one.
On board two, Fide Master (FM) Douglas Munenga tumbled to GM Yuriy Kryvoruchko while Candidate Master Musatwe Simutowe lost to GM Ruslan Ponomariov.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
