State committed to develop the whole country

By YANDE KAPEYA

VICE President George Kunda says Government is committed to enhancing the development of the country without discrimination.

Mr Kunda said government will develop all provinces of Zambia regardless of the people’s political affiliation.
He said this in Parliament yesterday in response to a question from Mazabuka member of Parliament Garry Nkombo (UPND) during the Vice President’s question time.

Mr Nkombo wanted Mr Kunda to clarify what he meant on his recent campaign trail in the Luena by-elections by suggesting that people should vote for the MMD to receive development as seen in the development in Nalikwanda constituency whose MP is from the ruling party.

In response, Mr Kunda said he was simply advising the people of Luena on the advantages of voting for the ruling party.
He said MPs from the ruling party have direct contact with the President, Vice President and the entire cabinet.

Mr Kunda, however, said Government is determined to develop all parts f the country without discrimination.
“Infact just the other day, the honourable MP was on television praising government for enhancing development in Mazabuka and so you can see that government is developing the entire country,” Mr Kunda said.

He said government has recorded significant social and economic growth in Southern Province despite the region being dominated by opposition MPs.
Mr Kunda said the province has been receiving a ‘Lion’s share’ in development programmes because of the good policies of government.

He said this in response to a question by Monze Central MP Jack Mwiimbu (UPND) who wanted to know if it is government’s policy to favour MPs of the ruling party with development.

“I am surprised with this kind of question. If you look at Southern Province, development has taken place there.

“You ask Chief Mwanachingwala, Major Robbie Chizyuka and honourable Nkombo on the development we have taken to this province because we have seen them on television praising government. It is a fact that as an elected government, we design budget and allocate resources but bring all these to Parliament for approval,” Mr Kunda said.

He said the fact that government is in-charge of resources does not imply opposition dominated areas are neglected.
